  • 2’s, Too, Preschool, and Kindergarten Program Ballet Shoes
Just a few reminders and needed “bring with” for your upcoming class. To make this a successful and fun experience for both instructors and dancers, we want to send a friendly reminder of classroom etiquette for “independent” 2’s through Kinders classes. Independent 2’s Too/Preschool/Kinder Requests: 1) Place dance shoes (ballet/jazz/etc.) on feet before drop-off into class (ballet shoes first). This means slipping ballet shoes into crocs, sandals, bigger boots, etc. before leaving the house and not a) before entry into the class or b) after entry into the class, as this delays the start of class time. 2) LABEL ballet and tap shoes with student name. This helps us when students grab a 3rd shoe and zip it in their bag for multi-shoe classes. Changing shoes can result in misplacement of shoes that are not labeled. 3) LABEL their dance bag with their name visible to the teacher/assistant. 4) Bring a sealed thermos with water in the dance bag (labeled). 5) We ask that you please send your dancer with a second pair of clothes for an unforeseen bathroom accident in a ziplock gallon bag in the dance bag. If forgotten, we do have TDC gear or costumes for sale (ranging from $30-50 per outfit). Our policy is to let your child continue class after they are changed into a dry set of clothing. Your account will be charged for these new items (please note these are non-returnable once worn). 6) Shoe type/color/where: purchase shoes locally at Metronome (new location San Carlos between 3rd and 5th) ) shoes ballet/tap: Capezio Hanami split sole, canvas (no ties) (pink for girls traditional, black for boys) and Velcro black tap shoes (no ties, elastics, etc.). (We are a tie-free studio. Ties cause a distraction to the dancers and come untied during class. Dancers play with them and untie them. Tie or snap tap shoes make it difficult for students to change their shoes independently.) 7) Jazz shoes: no ties slip-on flesh-tone for female, black for male. 8) We ask you to please have your dancer use the restroom/ facilities before class to help keep class time focused on class. 9) We ask that we please keep drop-off routines to a minimum, allowing our teachers and our students to begin classes on time. This ensures the teacher is able to give full attention to the class and ensure your child's success. 10) Bring a jacket (labeled with name) as our exterior studio doors will stay open (regardless of temperature) for fresh air and ventilation. 11) Dress in whatever dance clothes for ballet, lyrical, jazz, and musical theater that work best for your child. We do request hair to be pulled back away from the face. These are sold locally at Metronome Dancewear, a few miles away from the studio. 12) Long hair is “required” to be in a ponytail or short hair pulled away from the face for any acro class or acro/jazz class for your child’s safety (no jewelry). Wear tight-fitting clothing that will not flip over their face when upside down. Thank you for helping us create a successful and calm environment for your dancer and our instructor. Noise from outside: We do continue to have our doors open, with purifiers, fans, with baby gates for fresh air with blinds pulled down. The doorway must be kept clear. When our young dancers can see any part of an parent’s / adult’s body, it is a distraction that causes disruption to your child and other children’s learning. Also, we ask that any conversations during classes take place to the side / away from the open doors so our dancers may focus inside the classroom and have a positive experience. If you can hear us, we can hear you. Should you want to be with your student in class, or watch their class, we have that opportunity available to you in our “Caregiver & Me classes.” If you would like to add this class, if you would like to switch for a period of time, please reply to this email and we will do so for you. If there is any issue (including behavioral) with your dancer in the classroom that our staff cannot address, our front desk will either text or call you. Please be sure to have your cell phone on you when your child is in class.
  • Acrobatics/Tumbling
In an effort to maintain our student's safety, we are reminding our acro students of our dress code for acro class training. Acro students must wear tight-fitting activewear clothing that does not flip over their head when upside down. This is a safety hazard. No jeans or jean material please. For the safety of your dancer and fellow classmates, jewelry of any kind is not all owed in class (including- any watches or bracelets, earrings, rings, or anklets). We want to make sure jewelry does not break, get misplaced when asked to remove, or injure your dancer / another dancer in the process of training. Our student’s safety is our greatest concern. With that being said, we also ask that students refrain from wearing artificial or real nails of extended length. This is to prevent any potential issues while tumbling and so forth. Finally, for the safety of Acro dancers, it is essential for them to have their hair secured away from the face. This will allow them to tumble, limber, and partner without fear of injuring themselves, other dancers, or teachers. If your student is out of dress code for class, our instructors will ask them to sit to the side of the class to observe the class and/or we will call you for the option to purchase acro-appropriate clothes we may have here.
